Time travel to the future

I never really wanted to go to the future, I don’t know why really, it’s something so strange to me…I think  that in the eighties (1985, the Marty McFly year) thinking about the year 2015 was something really big! But now, in 2021, I don’t think that there’s a year that seem important. Maybe the year 3000! Maybe I can see some flying cars, or bionic taxi drivers, I don’t know, it would be really interesting! Maybe humans could fly like birds, and even I think that I would like to stay there…but I don’t know. Sometimes I think that the world it’s going to be full of concrete, like the movie Metropolis, and big buildings full of future people and robot dogs, so I think that I wouldn’t want to be there, I would like to see some forests, or the ocean, not a real version of the diner were Marty McFly met his dad. Well, maybe I would like to see the future ocean, or listen the music of the year 3000. Is going to be that different? Maybe new instruments will be invented, or new ways of write music…Or the robots learn to sing and make music only for robots, and the human cannot understand. That would be really funny, and I would like to go to a robot concert.

My Bucket List

A few years ago I make something like a bucket list. It consisted of a few points, mainly books:

1)     Buy La Nueva Novela

2)     Buy La Novela Luminosa

3)     Buy Museo de la novela de la Eterna.

Those three books were something that i always wanted, and because of that I wrote that. Little by little, I bought all of them, and when I bought the last one (Museo de la Novela de La Eterna) I went to celebrate with some friend that love books too. It was a really fun afternoon!

When I was a kid I made a list that consisted of study composition in the conservatory, sing in a band, and write a book. After something like twenty years I can say that I’ve done all that! And even, I’ve done it with a lot of friends! I never really think that those activities were something that I could do with other people, and that’s amazing too.

If I do a bucket list now, I would include travel to other countries….and meeting more people in those countries, those activities are difficult to me, but I think that are possible…I only need money and time, but I think that it’s going to be just fine.

My future job

It’s strange to write about my future job because I study musical composition, and music it’s something that I’ve always done. I  don’t remember dreaming about doing music, because it’s been there always, but I think that I dream about travel a lot playing my songs in little theaters. I have a band, so we always dream about that: gigs in beautiful places around the world, meeting interesting people, and making good music. Of course the salary it’s always a problem, musician don’t earn that much, but if we can make music that people really like, so we have a chance of making some money…despite that, I think that musician don’t become musicians because of the money. For example, I don’t remember dreaming about being a Beatle and saying “Wow, I’m going to buy a mansion doing this!”, instead, I dreamed about doing really good music. I know some classmates that dreamed about being Beethoven, and no one seemed to think about how they’re going to make some money writing romantic music, but they were happy anyway.

In terms of my career, I don’t want to make a PhD or something like that. After seven years i’m tired of going to classes and think about contemporary music.

My favorite movie it’s a movie called Waiting For Guffman. It’s about a theater director, Corky St. Claire,  in a little town called Blaine  who is in charge of putting a musical show about the history of the town. He assemble a cast of normal people of the city (the dentist, the couple in charge of the only travel agency, and a girl who works in the Dairy Queen) and do  a musical called Red White & Blaine. I like it because of the innocence of the group: they really think that they’re going to Broadway and be really famous, in spite of being not very good actors, singers and dancers.  This movie was perfect to me, because I like theater, music and comedy, and when I saw it I became almost obsessed with it, and I saw it every day for the next three months.

The last movie that I saw was Les Choses de la Vie, a French movie about a couple who are ending their relationship. I don’t know if I recommend it, because it’s really sad, but the main song it’s perfect, so maybe yes, I recommend it only because that song.

The best concert

The best concert that I ever went to is a concert of a homeless man called  Fernando Dayller in 2013.  He played in the street just one song for a really long time called Macanudo, and the best part is that everyone was singing the whole song from beginning to end, because, and I dind’t knew it then, he is a really famous person in Melipilla, the city that I was in and where he was doing his concert. It lasted about 30 minutes,  but it was great. I don’t know why, but he was like a magician, or a snake charmer, because everyone was dancing to this song about high class people and the language that they use. When the song ended, we asked him to play it again and again. Years later I saw him in a tv show called City Tour singing this song, and some months later  he even wrote an article in The Clinic, an left wing magazine. There he referred to his song Macanudo as “the hits of the hits” and I think that he is right about that.

A country that I would like to visit.

The country that I want to visit is France. Especially Paris, its capital. I always loved French literature, like Alfred Jarry, Raymond Queneau, and Georges Perec. They’re all dead, but I don’t know why I think that if I came to that city I would meet them…it’s not possible, but I think that they’re still there writing in cafés and bars. Also, I would love to go to the Collège de Pataphysique, a French institution founded in 1948 that creates parodic scientific theories based on a false science called Pataphysics. Also I would love to go to a reunion of the French literary group OuLiPo. They’re a group of writers and mathematicians who like to write using really strange and difficult  rules that they invent for themselves. One of the most famous books created by a member of the group was La disparition, a book written without the letter e, the most used letter in French. And I would also go to the place where Inspector Jules Maigret (a character created by Georges Simenon) worked: 36 quai des Orfèvres.
